Claude
Connect GuruSup Brain to the Claude desktop app as a custom connector, and make Claude use it.
Use this page to connect GuruSup Brain to the Claude desktop app. On the Brain MCP page this client is listed as Claude.
Claude cannot install a server from a pasted prompt, so you add Brain by hand. The steps take a few minutes.
Before you start
- You have an account in a Brain organization.
- You have the Claude desktop app installed and are signed in to it.
- You have the Brain MCP URL. Open Brain MCP in the Brain sidebar, pick Claude under Need help setting it up?, and click Copy URL next to Connector URL. In production the URL is
https://mcp.brain.gurusup.com/mcp. If the Brain MCP page shows a different URL, use that one. - On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, Anthropic's guide says an owner adds a custom connector under Organization settings first, and members then connect it. If you cannot add one, ask your Claude owner. See the guide linked below.
Connect
Open Connectors
In Claude, click your profile picture or name in the bottom-left corner, then click Settings. In Settings, click Connectors in the left sidebar. Anthropic's guide calls this place Customize > Connectors. If your app shows Customize, use that.
Add a custom connector
Click Add custom connector near the bottom of the page.
In the Name field, type exactly GuruSup Brain. Paste the URL into the URL field, then click Add.
Approve the connection
Claude may ask you to confirm the connection. Approve it. If a sign-in page opens in your browser, sign in with the account you use for Brain. If you belong to more than one organization, you choose the organization at this step. GuruSup Brain then appears in your list of connectors.
For more detail, see Anthropic's guide to custom connectors.
Make Claude check Brain
Adding the connector gives Claude access to Brain. It does not tell Claude to use it. To do that, use a project.
Open a project
Open the project you want to use Brain in, or create one.
Set the instructions
In the project knowledge panel on the right, click Set project instructions.
Paste and save
Paste this instruction and save: "For anything about this company, use the GuruSup Brain tools before answering. Call init first, then ask_company_memory. Answer only from what those tools return, and if they find nothing, say so instead of guessing."
Project instructions apply only to chats inside that project. A chat outside the project has the connector but not the instruction, so Claude may not use Brain there. Start your company questions from the project.
Check that it works
Check the connector
GuruSup Brain is in your list of connectors under Settings, then Connectors. Anthropic's guide says you can also turn connectors on or off for a single conversation from the + button at the lower left of the chat, then Connectors. Make sure it is on.
Check the tools
Ask Claude: "Which tools do you have from GuruSup Brain?" It should list tools such as init and ask_company_memory. A full list has 13. See the Tools reference.
Ask a question
In the project, ask something your organization's sources can answer.
What success looks like: Claude asks Brain, and the answer is written from what Brain returns, with the titles of the pages it used. If Brain has nothing, Claude says it found nothing. See Ask questions and Sources and citations.
Remove or reconnect
Anthropic's guide says to open Customize > Connectors, click Remove or the three dots next to the connector, and follow the prompts. To connect again, add the connector again and sign in.
If it doesn't work
- Check that GuruSup Brain appears in your list of connectors and that it is turned on for the conversation.
- Check that the name and URL are the ones from the Brain MCP page.
- If Claude connects but does not use Brain, check that you are chatting inside the project that holds the instruction.
- If the sign-in page does not open, or Claude works with the wrong organization, see MCP troubleshooting.
