What makes Brain different

What Brain does with your knowledge beyond finding text, and where you see each part in the app.

Brain does more than find text. This page describes what it does with your knowledge, where you see each part in the app, and what Brain needs from you.

It learns facts, not just documents

Brain reads each document and writes what it learned as pages of its own, organized around the things your company talks about, such as people, organizations, projects and decisions. Each fact is stored on its own, tied to the source it came from. When your assistant asks a question, Brain answers from those facts and their pages.

Where you see it. Each source card on Sources shows how many memories Brain learned from it, and Overview shows the total. A memory is one fact. See How Brain works.

It knows which facts are current

Facts change. When a source clearly corrects or replaces an earlier fact, for example with a later date or an explicit correction, Brain marks the older fact as replaced and keeps it in the history. A newer source alone does not replace a fact. Your assistant is given the current facts.

Where you see it. Nothing to manage. You see the result in answers. When Brain cannot tell which fact is right, it becomes a conflict, below.

It connects what it knows

Brain links related facts to the people, organizations and projects they are about. That lets it gather what it knows about one subject from several sources.

Where you see it. Admins can explore these connections in Synapses.

It surfaces real disagreements

Brain settles the clear cases itself: facts that describe different points in time, explicit corrections, and facts that apply to different scopes. When two sources really disagree and Brain cannot tell which is right, it raises a conflict for an admin to decide.

Where you see it. Admins handle these under Conflicts. See Resolve conflicts.

It respects who is asking

Brain only returns what the person asking is allowed to see. Access follows the person's role and the categories an admin has granted.

Who sets access. Admins do, on the Team page. Open a member to choose the categories they can see. Admins see every category. See Members and roles and What an agent can see.

Where you see it. Admins can see how each question was handled under Queries. See Review queries.

It asks people when it does not know

When the evidence is not there, Brain says so instead of guessing. If a colleague is set up as a Brain contact with a working channel, your assistant can ask Brain to send them the question. Their reply comes back to Brain, which checks it before adding it to what it knows.

Where you see it. Members follow their requests under My requests. Admins see follow-ups under Ingest (Follow ingestion) and set up contacts under Team (Brain contacts).

It gives your assistant skills

A skill is a set of instructions your assistant can load when a task matches it. Admins approve which skills the assistant gets, and an assistant can propose one that a user wrote. A proposed skill does nothing until an admin approves it.

Where you see it. Admins manage them under Skills. See Skills.

One memory for many assistants

Brain is not tied to one assistant. Your team can use Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex or any assistant that supports MCP, and they all draw on the same memory, each with the access of the person signed in. An admin can also create an agent account with its own access for an automated agent. See MCP overview, What an agent can see and Agent accounts.

What Brain needs from you

Brain only knows what it is given. That means what you connect or upload, and what people add, including replies to Brain's questions.

  • Connect or upload. An admin connects sources (Connectors overview) or uploads files (Upload content).
  • Build the memory once. An admin confirms the first build with Continue in setup, or Build my memory on Home, and Brain starts it when your content is prepared. See the Quickstart.
  • Set up contacts. Give Brain someone to ask. See Brain contacts.
  • Set access. Choose the categories each person can see.

What Brain does not do

  • It does not write the answer. Your AI assistant does, from the evidence Brain returns. The wording is the assistant's.
  • It does not promise a link to the original. A citation names a page of Brain's memory. See Sources and citations.
  • It only knows what it is given. Sources it cannot read, or items that are not shared with it, are missing from its memory.
